Some of you will have to look up what GTD stands for, needless to say I’m ready for some football when I get back. Our GTD turned out to be a really good call. Lucerne is about 2 hours by train from Interlaken and it was one of the prettiest train trips we’ve been on. (Good thing cause Swiss rail ain’t cheap!) We snapped pictures out the train window like crazy but admittedly most didn’t turn out. You’ll just have to trust me on this one. The lakes are turquoise and we seem to be by one most of the trip.

After about 2 hours we arrived in Lucerne (or Luzern if you’re a local) which is famous for it’s medieval old town including this wooden bridge. We spent the next couple hours following some random lady’s walking tour from the internet and it worked out pretty well. (…nice job random lady!)

Here’s another shot of the old town area.

Finally about 2pm were we as hungry as… some tourists following a random lady’s walking tour. As is our way we stopped at a restaurant near the water that seemed to have the German word for beer in the title and it turned out to be really good. (..and they had beer, go figure!) As you can see we went traditional. I know it looks a little German but they speak German here anyway. So here’s a pro-tip: If you order a pretzel with cheese, you don’t get a pretzel with cheese to dip it in. You get a pretzel-cheese sandwich. (…with lettuce for god’s sake!) Oh well, it was really good anyway.

After this hearty German (aahh , I mean Swiss) meal we made our way back to Interlaken. Up next we hit the cog railway in Interlaken that took us to Harder Kulm. (Don’t ask me what that means) This took us up about 1000 feet above Interlaken for some really nice views. That’s actually our train station in the bottom right corner.

Once we got back down we headed for dinner. (Pizza tonight!) On our way back from dinner the sun decided to hit the Jungfrau which is visible from town. You can take a train all the way up and apparently a James Bond film used this mountain for some scenes. The bad news is this was on the way to get ice cream after dinner and ice cream shop was already closed. (So that pretty much ruined the whole day 😉

Better luck tomorrow when we start our actual hiking trip with Backroads. Here’s hoping we can track down some ice cream, otherwise Kelly is not going to be happy.
Great stories and pictures. Sounds like your off to a good start. We look forward to hearing more as the trip continues.
